The newly appointed Service Chiefs have arrived at the National Assembly for their screening by the Senate.

They arrived at the National Assembly Complex at about 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, accompanied by other senior military officers.

The Senate had on Tuesday rescheduled the screening to Wednesday, October 29, after earlier announcing that it would hold next week.

The adjustment followed a correspondence read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in which President Bola Tinubu requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of the new Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the other Service Chiefs without delay

Akpabio explained that the early screening was to allow the military leaders to resume their roles immediately.

President Tinubu had urged the Senate to fast-track the confirmation process to ensure continuity and effective coordination of the country’s security framework

On October 24, the President announced a shake-up in the military hierarchy, appointing General Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff to replace General Christopher Musa. He also named Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retained his position.
