A sad and shocking incident happened in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where a man was burnt alive by an angry crowd after he was accused of stealing a generator.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was caught in the early hours of the morning while trying to escape with the generator. Instead of handing him over to the police, the crowd quickly turned violent. They beat him and later set him on fire right at the scene.

Videos and pictures of the incident have been circulating online, drawing mixed reactions. While some people condemned the act of stealing, many others strongly criticized jungle justice, saying no one has the right to take another person’s life.

This is not the first time such a thing has happened in Nigeria. In many communities, suspected thieves are often attacked by mobs before law enforcement agencies can arrive. Human rights groups have repeatedly warned that jungle justice is a crime and only adds more tragedy to society.

The police have since appealed to residents to always report suspected criminals to the authorities instead of taking laws into their own hands. They also promised to investigate the case and bring those involved in the mob action to justice.
