After the U.S. administration under President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) for religious freedom violations, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has urged the president to authorize military support for Nigeria
He made the call while describing the ongoing violence as a “religious genocide” targeting Christian communities.
In a post shared on his official X account, Senator Graham condemned what he called organized attacks on Christians by Boko Haram and other extremist groups.
He said these groups threaten not just Africa but global peace, calling the situation a humanitarian disaster marked by “barbaric behavior beyond comprehension.”
I hope President Trump will provide military support to stop the continued killing of Christians in Nigeria. This is a case of religious genocide. Boko Haram and other extremist Islamic groups in the area are a danger to all of humanity, not only Africa. The level of cruelty and barbaric acts is indescribable,” Graham said.
He further noted that Trump could “do the world a great service by protecting the innocent from unchecked violence,” describing such action as “a noble mission for our men and women in uniform.”
Graham noted that with time still left in Trump’s presidency, his administration had a chance to take decisive action to defend Christians facing persecution worldwide.
He said military aid to Nigeria would not only be a strategic move but also a moral duty that reflects America’s leadership in protecting human rights and fighting extremist violence across Africa.
